FAQ
Data & coverage
Which funds are covered? Roughly 32,000 US-listed mutual funds and ETFs. See Coverage.
Do you cover non-US funds, stocks, or bonds? No — US mutual funds and ETFs only. No individual equities, bonds, or non-US funds.
How far back does history go?
To each fund's inception. min_return_date on the fund tells you its earliest date, and
return_earliest_available is its since-inception return.
Are delisted funds included?
Yes. The dataset is survivorship-bias-free — closed funds keep their full history and are flagged
is_inactive.
Methodology
Are returns net of fees? They're total returns from adjusted closing prices (splits + dividends reinvested). For funds, the published NAV/price already reflects the fund's expense ratio, so returns are effectively net of fund fees — but they don't model your own transaction costs or taxes.
Are returns percentages or decimals?
Decimal fractions: 0.0523 = +5.23%. Multiply by 100 to display. Up to 6 decimal places.
How is a multi-year return calculated? Periods under 2 years are cumulative; 2 years and longer are annualized (CAGR). Full formulas in Methodology.
Do you offer intraday or real-time data? No — end-of-day only.
What does as_of do on a weekend or holiday?
It snaps back to the nearest prior trading day; the response's as_of_date shows the day actually
used.
Freshness
How often is data updated? Incremental updates five days a week, full rebuilds Wednesday and Saturday. See Freshness.
Limits & keys
What are the rate limits? A per-minute burst and a monthly quota, both by plan (Free 250/mo → Business 10,000/mo). See Errors & rate limits.
Can I fetch many funds at once?
Yes — the /batch endpoints take up to 100 codes and count as one request. Batch and cache to stay
well under quota.
Licensing
Can I store and cache the data? Yes, on every plan. See Licensing.
Can I show the data to my own end users, or redistribute it? Both require the Business plan or the Snowflake Marketplace dataset. Internal use — building apps, analysis, and research for your own organization — is fine on any plan; surfacing the returns to people outside your organization is the part that needs Business. See Licensing.
